Re: What’s Stopping Us

Apparently my article left the impression with some folks that I felt mission trips are somehow not important or useful. I apologize for leaving that impression. It was not my intent. The point I was trying to make was that we should not be ashamed of going on mission trips.

My comments were based on an incident from a few years back. One of my employees was going on vacation and was coy about where he was going. He always just said "South America". One day in my office, I asked him where he was going. He shut the door and said, "I can tell you - I'm going on a mission trip. But I don't want the others to know because they wouldn't understand." I could not convince him that going on a mission trip was not a shameful thing.

The point I wanted to make is that we are not called to be secret agents for Christ. “Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret.”” John 18:20 NASB “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews 13:6 KJVM    MS

Disaster Preparedness Update

The following is from the Southern Federation Disaster Preparedness VP, Chriss Brickert, dated February 2007.

“If you believe that community service and disaster preparedness is not important, think again! All of these events have occurred in our federation within the last six months alone. Wild fires, Heat advisories, Tsunami warnings, Minor earthquakes, Winter storms, Flooding, and numerous Power outages.

“If you have a heart for Disaster Response, are willing to train and can deploy anywhere in the U.S. for 2 to 3 weeks, you can be an important part of an 8 person team being coordinated in the Southern Federation of the Washington Conference for Community Services. I’ve had the amazing experience of working three different times on the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the work that you can do to help others will change your life.
